These are disorders that are characterized by abnormal movements and they can be due to a wide variety of causes. Common conditions in this category may include Tic disorders, Tourette syndrome, spasticity, dystonia, chorea, myoclonus, restless legs syndrome and tremors.
Commonly performed tests during the course of an evaluation will depend on the patients symptoms. Testing may include a brain MRI scan, EEG or a neuropsychological assessment to assess for co-morbid conditions.
Treatment will differ depending on the diagnosis and severity of symptoms.
